Not all dogs are born to be service dogs:

If a dog is better suited to a different job, Patriot Service Dogs does our best to find alternative placements. We never force a dog to become a service dog.

PSD dogs have gone on to work with search and rescue organizations, US Customs, fire departments, and sheriff departments.

Our Career Change Dogs:

Rosie

Rosie could not complete her service dog training due to a medical condition. Today, she remains on the PSD Team as a training assistant. She helps teach PSD puppies proper dog manners and confidence. She also helps PSD with new commands and training techniques.

Tank

Tank works as an Officer Wellness and Community Outreach dog for the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department. We are so proud of the work he does in his community. If you represent a first responder unit and are interested in a therapy or facility dog, please contact us.

Mattie

Mattie found her career change with US Customs. When dogs have a high prey drive or are too high energy to become a service dog, PSD looks for work that might better suit their personality. We have also had dogs work in search a rescue and environmental conservation work.

Battle Buddies

Occasionally, PSD trains a dog that was not born for a working life or that does not meet our medical standards. These dogs are eligible to become Battle Buddies—companion dogs for veterans that do not need a service dog. Please note, these dogs are not common, but veterans are welcome to complete an application. If PSD thinks we have a suitable Battle Buddy, we will contact applicants.
